Traumagraf : uma grelha de avaliação de acontecimentos traumáticos

Abstract

O grande número de pessoas afectadas com desordem de stress póstraumático requer a identificação dos indivíduos traumatizados de forma rápida no sentido de se avaliar a natureza e os efeitos dos acontecimentos traumáticos. O presente artigo descreve um estudo qualitativo sobre a aplicação duma grelha de avaliação de acontecimentos traumáticos (traumagraf) na população universitária que inclui os comentários doa alunos em relação ao uso do instrumento bem como a apresentação dos resultados do Traumagraf na amostra do nosso estudo. Os resultados mostraram que o traumagraf além de instrumento de avaliação possui também a potencialidade de “arrumar” os acontecimentos traumáticos. O facto dos sujeitos terem que rever os acontecimentos permitiu a muitos deles terem insight e consciencialização do que lhes aconteceu identificando a necessidade de apoio social e nalguns casos de apoio psicológico. O estudo quantitativo, por outro lado, permitiu revelar que uma grande parte dos sujeitos ainda se sente perturbado e tem sintomas em relação às situações traumáticas vivenciadas não tendo recebido nenhum apoio psicológico. Implicações em termos de intervenção são apresentadas.

The large amount of people affected with post-traumatic stress disorder requires the identification of traumatized individuals in a quick manner so that an assessment of the nature and impact of traumatic events can take place. This article presents a qualitative study regarding the application of an assessment tool (traumagraf) in a university population that includes students’ comments towards the instrument itself and the presentation of the results of the traumagraph in the sample of our study. Results showed that the traumagraf, besides being an assessment tool, can also “integrate” the traumatic events allowing for insight and a better understanding of what happened including in some cases the identification of the need for social or psychological support. The quantitative study, on the other hand, revealed that the great majority of our sample is still bothered by the symptoms towards the experienced traumatic events and have not received any kind of psychological help. Implications for intervention are discussed.
