O estudo compreendeu diversos ensaios laboratoriais no material fresado, extração e análise do ligante
estudo, incluindo a caracterização do ligante e a sensibilidade à água, resistência à deformação
The growing importance of recycling and the circular economy has increased the focus on sustainability in various areas of engineering, motivated by responsible waste management and the reduction of environmental impacts. The reuse of materials in civil engineering works plays a fundamental role in preserving the environment. In this context, the recycling of bituminous paving materials stands out as a topic of interest, requiring in-depth analysis. The main aim of this dissertation is to evaluate the effects of incorporating rejuvenating agents into asphalt mixtures with 30% milled material (reclaimed asphalt pavement, RAP) from aged flexible pavements on the properties of the recycled mixture, intending to promote their sustainable recycling in line with the principles of the circular economy. The study explored the feasibility of using a rejuvenator to achieve recycled mix characteristics comparable to conventional mixtures using a new 50/70 type bitumen. The RAP material used was extracted from distressed pavements and characterized. This step was followed by a study to determine the optimum rejuvenator percentage, aiming to obtain a final binder for the recycled mix with properties similar to those of a 35/50 type bitumen. The study included various laboratory tests on the RAP material, including extraction and analysis of the residual binder to assess its degree of aging. Various rejuvenator concentrations were tested to determine the most appropriate to recover the original characteristics of the binder. To validate the composition of the recycled mix, samples of asphalt mixtures were produced with RAP material and different rejuvenator dosages, and their mechanical properties were assessed in the laboratory. By analyzing the physical, mechanical, and rheological characteristics of the material developed in this study, including the characterization of the binder and its water sensitivity, resistance to permanent deformation, stiffness modulus, and fatigue resistance, it became clear that the use of a rejuvenator in recycled mixtures makes it possible to achieve the properties of a conventional mixture. The results obtained encourage more sustainable practices and contribute to reducing the environmental impact of road pavement construction and rehabilitation. |
