Filosofia e ideia de Europa : cosmopolitismo e paz no "Iluminismo"

Abstract

O tema da paz é, desde a aurora da filosofia, uma das questões maiores da humanidade, como o ilustra a série infinda de escritos que testemunham uma heurística simultaneamente de temor e de esperança. No presente trabalho, pretende-se analisar como alguns dos escritos mais significativos da época moderna, inquirindo sobre as causas da guerra e as vias duma "paz universal", neles de estabelece um profundo liame entre tais ideais e a necessidade imperiosa quer duma União Europeia quer duma tendencial união dos povos e nações; tais escritos, pela analítica neles esclarecida, que parte das virtualidades da "sociabilidade" e da aptidão "cosmopolítica" dos humanos, às possibilidades de "federalismo" ínsito na consciência europeia, relevam os princípios axiais e a utensilagem teórica propícia para tal escopo, contando-se por isso mesmo entre as referências genealógicas dos textos mais actuais de filosofia política da nossa contemporaneidade.

The theme of peace is, from the beginning of philosophy, one of the major problems for humankind, as can be seen from the unending series of writingts which give witness to an heuristic for fear and hope. The present article intends to analyse how some of the most important writings of the modern age, dedicated to the causes of war and the ways leading to universal peace, have established a deep connection between such ideas and the unavoidable need of both the European Union and an inclination toward a broader Union of peoples and nations. Those writings, due to their enlightened analysis, which starts with the virtualities of sociability and the cosmopolitan aptitude of human beings, of the possibilities of the federalism present in the European consciousness, underline the axial principles and the theoretical instruments adequate to such an end, reason why they can be counted among the genealogical references of some of the most recent texts within the field of contemporary political philosophy.
