Dos processos de organização do território: Braga e a modelação da paisagem em época pré-romana

Abstract

Este trabalho pretende tratar os processos de organização do povoamento pré-romano, no território onde se vai implantar a cidade de Bracara Augusta, no alinhamento de uma abordagem atenta às especificidades da condição histórica e geográfica da paisagem. No contexto das investigações sobre o povoamento antigo, a generalidade dos autores descreve as dinâmicas de estruturação dos assentamentos fortificados segundo um sistema hierarquizado, que converge no reconhecimento de lugares estratégicos, com forte legibilidade na paisagem. Esta adaptação informa sobre uma determinada condição do espaço que nos parece capaz de abrir novos sentidos sobre a legibilidade do suporte territorial. A perspetiva da valorização espacial coloca o destaque nas relações que se vão estabelecer com as circunstâncias geomorfológicas do território. O objetivo é constituir matéria de reflexão que nos permita argumentar sobre o papel mediador do suporte topográfico, de acordo com três eixos problematizadores, que estruturam as três partes principais do texto, alinhados com os temas da acessibilidade, legibilidade/ inteligibilidade e visibilidade. Fixadas as chaves de leitura a partir dos dados arqueológicos e geomorfológicos, passamos no primeiro ponto a esclarecer sobre as relações que se estabelecem com os canais de circulação naturais do território e o modo como essas mesmas relações podem participar na construção de uma ideia de ‘rede’. No ponto seguinte focamos as relações que se estabelecem com o declive, de modo a complementar perspetivas sobre o seu papel na modelação dos ‘lugares’. Terminamos com os dados relativos à análise sobre a matriz de relações que se estruturam a partir da condição da distância. No enquadramento de um processo de mediação, estas relações informam sobre um sentido de apropriação inteligente do suporte territorial que se afigura de grande pertinência e oportunidade ao debate sobre a intervenção arquitetónica no território contemporâneo.

This paper aims to deal with the processes of organisation of the pre-Roman settlement in the territory where the city of Bracara Augusta would be established, in line with an approach intended to be aware of the specificities of the historical and geographical condition of the landscape. In the context of research on the ancient settlement, the 436 437 majority of the authors describe the dynamics of structuring the fortified settlements according to a hierarchical system, which converges in the recognition of strategic places, with strong legibility in the landscape. This adaptation reports on a particular condition of the space that we believe is capable of opening up new directions on the legibility of the territory. The perspective of spatial valorisation emphasises the relationships that will be established with the geomorphological circumstances of the territory. The aim is to provide a subject for reflection that enables us to discuss the mediating role of the topography, according to three problematising axes, which structure the three major parts of the text, aligned with the themes of accessibility, legibility/ intelligibility, and visibility. Having fixed the keys for interpreting the archaeological and geomorphological data, we move on to the first section to clarify the relationships that are established with the natural paths of the territory, and how these relationships are involved in the construction of an idea of a ‘network’. In the following section, we focus on the relationships that are established with the slope, in order to complement perspectives on its role in the modelling of ‘places’. We finalise with the data concerning the analysis on the matrix of relationships that are structured based on the condition of distance. In the framework of a mediation process, these relations provide information about a sense of intelligent appropriation of the territory which appears to be of great pertinence and opportunity to the debate on architectural intervention in contemporary space.
