O ambiente fluvial : perspectiva geomorfológica e sedimentológica : exemplos na bacia do rio Neiva

Abstract

A área de trabalho desta dissertação é o rio Neiva. O rio Neiva foi estudado a várias escalas, tendo sido descrito: o traçado do rio, em planta, a forma da secção transversal e a geometria longitudinal; as características morfológicas do canal, identificando os tipos de canal; a morfologia e as características sedimentológicas dentro do canal. No trabalho de campo foram: identificados, descritos e classificados os tipos de canais; seleccionados os sectores no rio Neiva representativos da variedade de canais; colhidas amostras de sedimentos no leito do rio. Na classificação dos tipos de canal aplicaram-se as classificações de Montgomery & Buffington (1997) e de Rosgen (1994, 1996). O estudo sedimentológico incluiu: a análise granulométrica; a composição, litológica e mineralógica obtidas por observação macroscópica e à lupa binocular; as medições necessárias para cálculo do índice de desgaste; a interpretação parcial e conjunta dos dados. A integração das observações de campo, a interpretação geomorfológica e sedimentológica mostraram que o rio Neiva apresenta ao longo do seu percurso vários tipos de canal, repetindo alguns tipos a partir de Azenhas do Neiva (Panque), local de rotura de declive nítida no perfil longitudinal e de mudança na composição das barras fluviais. A metodologia utilizada é útil em estudos de monitorização e de reabilitação fluvial e de áreas ribeirinhas.

The study object in this dissertation is the Neiva river. This river was studied and described at various degrees: the river course, in chart, the shape of the cross section and longitudinal geometry, the morphological characteristics of the channel, identifying the types of channel, the morphology and sedimentological characteristics within the channel. The fieldwork identified, collected, described and classified the following features: the types of channels; selected river sectors representative of the variety of channels; samples of sediment in the river bed. To classify the types of channel the classifications of Montgomery & Buffington (1997) and Rosgen (1994, 1996) were used. The sedimentological study included: the analysis of size, the mineralogical and lithological composition obtained by macroscopic observation and binocular microscope; the measurements needed to calculate the roundness index, the partial and joint interpretation of data. The integration of the field observations, the geomorphological and sedimentological interpretation showed that the Neiva river presents along its course various types of channels; some types reappear downstream from Azenhas of Neiva (Panque), a place of rupture featuring a knick in longitudinal profile and change in the composition of the river bars. This methodology is useful in studies of monitoring and rehabilitation of river and riparian areas.
