funciona melhor e quais variáveis influenciam a intenção das jovens fazer cirurgia
plástica. Social media is about projecting an image, the perfect selfie, the perfect body, it’s about altering your image to achieve the illusion of perfection. It’s getting more and more common for young people to turn to plastic surgery in order to become more similar to what nowadays is considered to be the perfect body. Instagram particularly is all about image and where the main goal is to show that exact illusion of perfection. That way, it’s not odd that most of plastic surgery clinics choose that channel to advertise their services. Though different tactics, companies try to come up with the best strategies to attract more patients and get them on this journey to the perfect body. As it’s known, young people are very present on Instagram and social media in general. Being more influential, naive and their self-esteem more fragile, it was important to know how the marketing strategy’s affect their interest in plastic surgery, which tactics work the best and how their self image impacts that. For this Study, a conceptual model was created composed by scales to measure self-image, plastic surgery acceptance and body talk, three different tactics selected from plastic clinics accounts on Instagram and the variable “intention to do plastic surgery”. The conceptual model was formed by six hypothesis and in order to test them a questionnaire was created making this a quantitative research. The sample consisted of 145 young women, aged between 18 and 29 years old. The results showed that there were correlations between the various variables under study, meaning that the tactics used by the plastic surgery clinics can influence young women to do plastic surgery specially when they have low self-esteem and their acceptance of plastic surgery is high. This study contributes to the investigation in a sense that it shows what tactic works best and what variables take part in the choice to do plastic sugery. |
