Marketing managers are changing their communication strategies, moving towards digital, and increasing investment in influencer marketing. Compared to traditional celebrities, digital influencers are more accessible, more credible, and more easily identifiable with their followers. Several studies mention the influence that digital influencers have on their followers' purchasing intention. However, it is relevant to further understand the reasons for their power of influence, and the consequences they have on their followers. For this reason, this study intends to fill these gaps. Generation Z is the first generation that never experienced life before the Internet. Social networks, especially YouTube, have become a central aspect of their lives. They consider YouTubers as friends and take their opinion into account when making purchasing decisions. This study aims to identify the dimensions of the source credibility of YouTubers that influence the most the perceived influence, attitude, and purchase intention of Generation Z. Five dimensions were studied: Trust, Popularity, Attractiveness, Quality of argument, and Expertise. A quantitative methodology was developed to test the model and the hypotheses. Based on the scales tested in the literature, a survey was administered online and obtained 1026 valid responses. Along with descriptive analysis of the data, confirmatory factor analysis was carried out to assess the quality of the scales, and an analysis of structural equations to assess the quality of the model's fit to the data and test the hypotheses of cause-effect relationship. Out of the 18 hypotheses considered, 7 were confirmed. With Purchase intention being 49% explained by the independent variables, with the Perceived Influence standing out as the variable with the greatest explanatory capacity of purchase intention. The main theoretical contributions relate to Perceived Influence as a predictor of Purchase intention and the need to rethink the role of attitude in conditioning Purchase intention in traditional theories. As for practical contributions, marketing managers will be able to develop strategies tailored to YouTube consumers, in particular Generation Z. This study also provides relevant contributions for marketing managers and digital influencers. The relevance attributed by consumers to the Attractiveness and Quality of the argument dimensions suggests their consideration in the definition of the profile of digital influencers to be hired by companies, and in the design of communication and digital marketing strategies. Likewise, the digital influencers themselves must include these dimensions of source credibility in the construction of the value proposition to present to their followers.
