Promoção de comportamentos seguros na internet : um estudo de caso

Abstract

A Internet tem vindo a adquirir um espaço e importância crescentes no quotidiano educativo, lúdico e de convívio social de muitas crianças e jovens. Sendo indiscutível a importância de promover a melhoria das condições de acesso à Internet e o combate à infoexclusão, importa também ter em atenção a qualidade e relevância das competências a desenvolver. De facto, não basta ser um utilizador da Internet, importa ser um utilizador crítico e consciente. O reconhecimento da existência de riscos associados a usos impróprios, ilegítimos e ilegais da Internet, tem dado origem a iniciativas no sentido de sensibilizar e alertar pais, professores e outros educadores, bem com as próprias crianças e jovens para os cuidados e precauções a tomar no uso da Internet. Em Portugal, estas iniciativas tiveram uma das suas expressões mais significativas através da implementação do projecto SeguraNet (2004-2006), coordenado inicialmente pelo GIASE (Gabinete de Informação e Avaliação do Sistema Educativo) do Ministério da Educação, e posteriormente pela equipa de missão CRIE, e do qual o Centro de Competência da Universidade do Minho (C.C.U.M.) foi parceiro. No âmbito do seu envolvimento no projecto SeguraNet, o C.C.U.M. levou a cabo um estudo de caso centrado na análise do processo de implementação de um conjunto de actividades visando a promoção de práticas seguras de utilização da Internet. O estudo focaliza-se nas actividades desenvolvidas por duas turmas do 4.º ano de escolaridade do “Agrupamento de Escolas de S. Gonçalo - Amarante” e na compreensão do impacto dessas actividades em outras turmas do agrupamento. É sobre a apresentação deste estudo e as principais conclusões/lições daí decorrentes que se desenvolverá este texto.

The Internet has been gaining increasing importance in the educational, leisure and social interaction of children and young adults. The importance of improving access to the Internet and of avoiding people being excluded from this digital new world is unquestionable. It is also unquestionable the importance of developing children and young adults’ competencies so they can be competent, conscientious and critical Internet users. The recognition of the existence of risks associated with improper, illegitimate and illegal uses of the Internet has given origin to projects and initiatives to alert parents, teachers and other educators and also children and young adults for the precautions to take when using Internet services. In Portugal, one of the most important initiatives to promote safe use of the Internet has been the SeguraNet Project (2004-2006), coordinated by GIASE (Cabinet of Information and Evaluation of the Educational System) first, and later by the CRIE group of the Education Ministry, having as formal partners various centres of research and support to the use of information and communications technologies in Portuguese schools. One of these centres is the C.C.U.M of Minho University. In the 2005/2006 school year, the C.C.U.M. carried out a case study focusing on the process of implementation of a set of activities aimed at promoting a secure Internet. The study was centred on the activities of the schools which constitute the “School of Amarante Group” and focused on the activities of two fourth grade classes (pupil’s age between 9 and 10 years) and on the impact of those activities on the educational community. In this paper we will report the main data and lessons learned from this study.
