This thesis deals with gender issues in articulation with some dimensions of the discussion about social housing, having as context of analysis the social neighborhood of Andorinhas, located in Braga, northern Portugal. Concluded in 1983, this venture comes in a context marked by the development of housing policies by the State, with emphasis on the construction of social fires, given the sharp urban population growth that began in the 1970s and new social dynamics arising of the democratization process of the country. It was therefore a matter of guaranteeing housing to those who did not have the economic conditions to acquire or rent it in the conventional housing market. It is assumed as guiding question of this work the social situation of women who live in the same neighborhood, especially in relation to the gender inequalities experienced in daily life. With this in mind, we can see how social inequalities are most intensely felt by women, especially the double subalternization - public and private - to which they have been culturally driven. Thus, there are some coping processes created by them, which we can define as expressions of opposition and even resistance, highlighting political, social, family, labor, among others. In addition to the use of primary and bibliographic sources, data obtained through interviews and questionnaires and using field diaries and photographs were explored. From these data emerges the analysis of the categories: experience in the educational system, career paths, political participation and gender stereotypes. Reflection on the intersection between gender inequalities and other social inequalities was central. If we face the issues of inequality and social exclusion, where the right to housing comes as one of the fundamental pillars for reducing vulnerability, however, the need to include other basic rights is evident. The results allow us to observe the reflexes of the legislative, socio-historical and cultural advances in Portugal, emphasizing, however, the permanence of social relations still permeated by male domination, being evident the subordination of women, translated into their daily perceptions and practices.por
