dc.description.abstract | This report describes the three-month internship experience held in the facilities of SDL Portugal in Porto, as a crucial part of the second year of the Master in Translation and Multilingual Communication. In its first stage, this report describes the phenomenon of creativity in translation, i.e., the way in which creative thinking and talent influence the decision-making process that we call translation. The concept of transcreation is then introduced as a translation strategy based on the concepts of fluency, recreation and rewriting and as a new service which is becoming more and more important for many advertising and marketing agencies. In the same chapter, we see how transcreation enters the global market and starts working together with the marketing strategies developed by companies in order to better reach consumers. The constraints caused by globalization enable us to shape transcreation and place it in a crossroad between both global and local realms so as to address the various needs of a culturally diverse market. The final part of this chapter is devoted to the creation of the translator-transcreator profile, someone who has a sound knowledge of the target-language culture and skills such as flexibility and originality. The following chapter presents the structure of the internship, the host entity, the methodological framework and the initial training, i.e., the translation tools that were used. For this purpose, this chapter describes the daily work assignments and the translation methodology applied, based on the concepts developed in the initial framework. Lastly, the third chapter aims at analysing the translation work in itself by highlighting the different workloads throughout the internship and the textual genres which were worked on. This chapter culminates with the inclusion of some of the translation examples which presented the most challenges with an analysis which starts by identifying the problem and ends with the decision- making process which led to the final translation solution. | por |
