Perceções, vínculo e papel dos Técnicos de Reinserção Social para a mudança de jovens ofensores

Abstract

Estudos indicam que os técnicos de reinserção social parecem ter uma influência fulcral no processo de mudança de jovens ofensores. No entanto, poucos estudos têm explorado as perceções e atitudes dos técnicos em relação ao seu papel neste processo. Este estudo pretendeu compreender as perceções dos técnicos acerca do seu papel no processo de mudança dos jovens e perceber o vínculo relacional estabelecido entre técnico/jovem e de que forma pode contribuir para a desistência criminal. Foram realizadas 10 entrevistas semiestruturadas a técnicos de Equipas de Reinserção Social e Centros Educativos do norte do país. Estas foram analisadas segundo os pressupostos da Análise Temática. Dos resultados obtidos, compreendeu-se que os contactos iniciais estabelecidos entre técnicos e os jovens parecem ter influência na forma como estes se posicionam face à intervenção. Quando consideram haver empatia, abertura e proximidade investem na relação técnico/ofensor, mas quando não percecionam estes aspetos, fazem o mínimo exigido pela intervenção. A relação estabelecida com os jovens é percebida como fundamental para a implementação da intervenção e subsequente (in)sucesso da mesma. Este estudo possibilitou a identificação de aspetos chave que visam a melhoria da atuação dos técnicos e consequentemente o incremento de resultados positivos ao nível da desistência criminal.

Literature has shown that probation officers can have a core influence in the change process of juvenile offenders. There are however few studies about probation officers’ perceptions and attitudes regarding their role in the change of juvenile offenders. This study aimed to understand how probation officers perceive not only their roles in the change process of juvenile offenders but also the bond established between them and the youths and its contribution to criminal desistance. We conducted ten semi-structured interviews with probation officers from the North of Portugal, which were analyzed according to Thematic Analysis’ procedures. This study showed that the initial bond established between youths and probation officers seems to influence professionals’ mindset and behavior during intervention. When empathy, proximity and open-mindedness to change are perceived as being initially present, probation officers tend to invest in the relationship. When they do not perceive initially none of these aspects, they seem to do the minimum intervention requirements. Additionally, probation officers deem the relationship established with youths as key for intervention implementation and its subsequent (un)success. This study allowed the identification of key aspects useful to enhance probation officers’ work and, consequently, the increase of positive results on criminal desistance.
