Scaffolding verbal materno e coerência estrutural narrativa da criança em idade pré-escolar

Abstract

O scaffolding assume um papel importante no desenvolvimento das capacidades narrativas das crianças. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar qual a relação entre o scaffolding verbal materno e a coerência estrutural narrativa da criança. Quarenta e uma crianças (24 rapazes, 58.5%) com 4 anos e suas mães realizaram uma tarefa de elicitação narrativa, utilizando um livro de imagens. O scaffolding foi analisado segundo a Grelha de Cotação de Comportamentos Verbais Promotores da Narrativa nas Crianças em Idade Pré-escolar, enquanto a narrativa foi avaliada com o Sistema de Codificação da Coerência Estrutural Narrativa. Os resultados mostram que os comportamentos maternos que dirigem a atenção e o interesse da criança para o livro e as questões que direccionam o discurso da criança para determinados pontos da história se correlacionam negativamente com alguns aspectos da coerência estrutural narrativa. Em contraste, níveis reduzidos de intrusividade materna a par com níveis elevados de sensibilidade e de capacidade para modificar e ajustar o seu comportamento verbal encontram-se associados a uma elevada coerência estrutural narrativa. Estes resultados sugerem que o momento no qual a mãe decide intervir e a forma como o faz são questões relevantes para o desenvolvimento da narrativa da criança, com possíveis repercussões na coerência estrutural narrativa.

Scaffolding assumes an important role in the development of children's narrative skills. The goal of this study was to understand the relation between maternal verbal scaffolding and preschoolers' narrative construction, at the level of structural coherence. Forty one children (24 boys, 58.5%) aged 4 years and their mothers participated in a narrative elicitation task, using a picture book. Scaffolding was analyzed according to the Coding System of Verbal Behaviors that Promote Preschoolers' Narratives and structural coherence was coded by the Narrative Structural Coherence Coding System. The results showed a negative correlation between the verbal behaviors that direct children's attention and interest to the book as well as questions that direct children's discourse and some aspects of structural coherence. Lower levels of maternal intrusiveness, coupled with higher levels of sensitivity and ability to change and adjust her verbal behaviors were associated with a higher narrative structural coherence. These results suggest that the way mothers intervene, as well as their timing, are relevant to the development of children's narratives, with possible repercussions on the level of the narrative's structural coherence.
