Abstract(s)In this chapter we will review the neurophysiology of the endocannabinoid system, as well as its implication for cognitive processes. Particularly, we will describe the major neurocognitive effects of cannabis following different periods of abstinence and underlying changes in brain structure and function. Overall, the studies suggest neurotoxic and functional effects following exposure to cannabis in adolescence, a critical neurodevelopmental vulnerability period to the adverse effects of exposure to exogenous cannabinoids
