Due to the controversy regarding the effect of emotion on visual operative memory, it was intended with this study to explore this effect. Therefore, an emotional induction was given with images and music and, to test the visual working memory it was used a probed recall task. One hundred and twenty-seven undergraduate students participated in this study. They were emotionally induced in one of three conditions (negative, positive and neutral) and completed a memory task that was divided in two parts, having one of one hundred and fifty trials each. In sixty participants effectively induced and who didn’t show any depressive or anxious symptoms, no effect of emotion on the visual operative memory was found. However, in terms of the efficacy of the one second delay in the visual working memory the participants obtained a better performance in the trials that had the one second delay when compared to the baseline trials (no delay). Overall, in the sample of this study, the emotional induction didn’t affect neither the capacity nor the quality of the visual working memory, possibly due to methodological aspects. |
