Roteiro das casas nobres com torre(s): Cabeceiras de Basto, Celorico de Basto e Amarante

Abstract

O presente Projeto tem por objetivo a criação de um roteiro turístico-cultural centrado nas casas nobres com torre nos concelhos de Amarante, Cabeceiras de Basto e Celorico de Basto. As domus fortis difundiram-se a partir da Idade Média, por exemplo, no Entre Douro e Minho, onde as casas-fortes se generalizaram e passaram a constituir o tipo de residência nobre de linhagens em ascensão, continuando a ser edificadas ao longo de parte da Idade Moderna e conservadas, restauradas e alteradas posteriormente, em muitos casos, até aos nossos dias. O gosto pela inclusão de torre(s) em casas nobres muito provavelmente mergulha as suas origens nas domus fortis medievais. Quando numa casa nobre existe torre medieval ou, mesmo, do século XVI, essa casa nobre terá tido, mesmo, origem numa domus fortis ou, pelo menos, numa casa-torre. Uma vez que da domus fortis original muitas vezes só sobrevive a torre, tendo, na maioria dos casos, os seus espaços anexos sido substituídos por outros posteriores, teremos que considerar casas que poderão incluir construções dos séculos XIII ao XIX. A proposta deste roteiro permite observar a evolução arquitetónica das casas nobres com torre ao longo do tempo, sendo notório que a componente residencial se sobrepõe à militar de forma progressiva. O percurso é delineado tendo em conta uma visita exploratória às casas, integrando alguns outros pontos de interesse para o visitante ou turísta que poderão ser visitados.

The objective of this Project is to create a touristic and cultural tour based on noble houses including tower(s) within the municipalities of Amarante, Cabeceiras de Basto and Celorico de Basto. The domus fortis were created during the Middle Ages. In the Portuguese northwest region of Entre Douro e Minho, for instance, the domus fortis became the generalized kind of noble residence adopted by ascending noble families; the domus fortis continued to be built and preserved during part of the Modern Ages and they were often restored and changed afterwards, sometimes until today. The option of including tower(s) in noble houses probably originates in their presence in medieval domus fortis. When a medieval tower or even a 16th century tower exists, the noble house probably originated in a domus fortis or, at least, in a tower-house. Very often, the only part of a medieval domus fortis that survived is the tower; in the majority of old domus fortis the residential annexes, kitchen and chapel were substituted for other later buildings; therefore, we have to pay attention to noble houses including buildings from the 13th to the 19th centuries. This tour proposal intends to encourage the observation of the architectural evolution of noble houses including tower(s) all along a very extended period of time. One can notice that, progressively, the residential character of the noble house overcame its military, defensive aspects. This tour proposal was designed having in mind exploratory visits to the houses that were included in the tour but it also calls attention to other patrimonial values that may enrich the experience of a visitant or tourist.
