Alguns modelos matemáticos na música: a aritmética do contraponto de 1ª espécie e o modelo geométrico de Tymoczko

Abstract

Este trabalho incidiu no estudo da relação da música com a matemática. A composição musical baseia-se num conjunto de regras pré-estabelecidas que definem as relações entre as notas musicais. Depois de se apresentar os conhecimentos básicos da simbologia musical, nesta tese traduz-se para uma versão numérica estas regras. Serão considerados números para as notas musicais e as regras musicais serão traduzidas em relações numéricas. Pretende-se fazer uma ligação entre as regras de composição musical aprendidas pelos estudantes de música do ensino secundário e a matemática (aritmética e sucessões) e mostrar uma aplicação da música em conceitos matemáticos abordados desde o ensino básico ao ensino superior como por exemplo na disciplina de álgebra linear. É importante aproximar campos do conhecimento considerados tão diferentes. Para a área musical é interessante compreender as estruturas da música através da matemática e para a matemática é relevante perceber novas formas de apresentação dos conteúdos.

This work focused on the study of the relationship between music and mathematics. The musical composition is based on a set of pre-established rules that define the relations between the musical notes. After presenting the basic knowledge of musical symbology, this thesis presents a numerical version of these rules. Numbers will be considered for musical notes and musical rules will be translated into numerical relationships. These rules will give a connection between the rules of musical composition learned by students of secondary school music and mathematics (arithmetic and successions). The models explained in this work will show connections between music and mathematical concepts that go from from basic education to higher education such as in the discipline of linear algebra. It is important to approach fields of knowledge that are considered so different. For the musical area it is interesting to understand the structures of music through mathematics and for mathematics it is relevant to perceive new forms of presentation of the contents.
