A memória e futuro do património industrial de Caldas das Taipas: Projecto para o Centro Interpretativo da Cutelaria

Abstract

Poucos são os que fortuitamente passando pela vila de Caldas das Taipas, têm conhecimento do seu panorama industrial, único em território nacional. A actual indústria de produção de cutelarias da vila de Caldas das Taipas, representada por mais de uma dezena de empresas, tem um peso inegável na economia da região e consequentemente do país, tendo em conta que a região, e mais concretamente algumas das empresas aí fixadas, são líderes europeias na produção de cutelarias de mesa. Independentemente da posição de liderança de mercado desta indústria no panorama nacional e europeu, e da grande parte da população região ter noção da dimensão desta indústria, esta é ainda uma realidade relativamente desconhecida ou até por vezes ignorada, pelo que se torna pertinente uma intervenção no sentido de valorizar esta tradição industrial em particular. Este é o mote para o tema apresentado neste trabalho, o desenvolvimento de um projecto para um equipamento que acolha, valorize e exponha a tradição e o contexto industrial particular da vila: as Cutelarias. Este intuito formaliza-se com o estudo e análise do contexto em que se desenvolve esta indústria, e através da proposta de um projecto de arquitectura para o “Centro Interpretativo da Cutelaria” como elemento agregador entre passado, presente e futuro da produção de cutelarias na vila.

Few are those who fortuitously wander through the village of Caldas das Taipas, are aware of its industrial tradition, unique in the country, found in this particular region. The current cutlery production industry in the village of Caldas das Taipas, represented by more more than a dozen companies, has an undeniable role in the economy of the region and consequently the country, taking into account that the region, and more specifically some of the companies laid down therein, are European leaders in the production of table cutlery. Irrespective of the market leading position of this industry in the domestic and European market, and much of the population region to be aware of the size of this industry, this is still a relatively unknown reality or sometimes even ignored, which call for intervention in order to value this particular industrial tradition. This is the motto for the theme presented in this work, the development of a project for an equipment that can welcome, value and expose the tradition and the particular industrial context of the village: Cutlery. This intention is formalized with the study and analysis of the context in which this industry is developed, and through the proposal of an architectural project for the “Cutlery Interpretation Center” as an aggregator between past, present and future of the production of cutlery in the Village.
