Perspectivating a school living in the present, in the here and now, aspires to present a contribution through poetry’s potential, where the voice is given to the creativity and imagination of the student. This work aims to enhance the learning process of poetic texts, its advantages in the integral formation of the student, and their contribution in the acquisition of multiple knowledges. In a society where poetry is hardly widespread, teachers have the task of demonstrating their linguistic and aesthetic characteristics, as also their need inside and outside the classroom. During the project intervention practices, developed in the 2nd and 5th grade of Basic Education, students were invited to read, to interpret and to write poetic texts, starting therefore from the appropriation to the understanding and finally, to the creative and personal expression. For that reason, we present some strategies and activities for different approaches to several Portuguese education skills. All aspects of the project were governed according the methodology of investigation, in which the techniques and resources used for data collection were based on observation, complemented by the subsequent reflections, and documentation through worksheets. As one of the objectives of this project aimed to investigate the relevance of the poetic text and visual poetry, the official documents of Portuguese teaching and schoolbooks, adopted by the institution, were analyzed to identify, at the same time, the space devoted specifically to poetry.
