This research thesis focuses on issues of violence, repression, mythology, media and the relationship with serial killers. Here, the intention is to make it clear that the phenomenon of serial killers cannot be set in the fantasy and the grotesque because it is part of the evil that this same society insists on deleting. The work brings to the stage of "real" the discussion about media coverage and identification of serial killers in front of the public. The other object of study is the public taking as a "microscope" the serial killer to demystify and show the dark side of the human being on a day to day basis. Moreover, what effects and behaviors are caused by the "disgusting" fascination by serial killers. By analyzing texts, we will adapt concepts to the territory this aims to study. For this, beyond the readings and reflections on literature, we will produce thoughts on top of it, bringing the ideas and proposals raised to the field of serial killers. The research will seek to contextualize the research on websites and stories published by Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo, in a qualitative approach. This is because the primary thrust of this thesis is the case of Francisco de Assis Pereira, the "Maníaco do Parque" (or "Park Maniac", freely translated), Brazilian serial killer that, after analysis, I believe to be a perfect case to fit into all concepts this dissertation will seek to address. We want to draw a parallel of this situation with the wickedness pure and raw represented by serial killers and that search for the extreme violence that begins when the “spring” that holds our inherent evil is set loose. To reflect on a concept of a new violence and about more subjective issues that permeate this case, such as seriation, and draw parallels between that concept and the ritualized violence practiced by serial killer’s fascination. We will question the motives that drive people into becoming emotionally involved with this different kind of crime, which at first sight does not have to mean, what is later denied. Think about if we see the violence to a new level to the point of needing grotesque reasons to purge it. The methodology was based on a literature search, analysis, comparison and systematization of these works; the analysis of cases carried by the newspaper Folha de São Paulo (a qualitative framework) in particular the story of the "Park Maniac", and also websites, movies, music and literature. The analysis of news stories starts from their sometimes naïve and irresponsible spectacularization of the crimes committed by serial killers. It is understood that, because it is a subject which in itself is too subjective, it is not intended to give any scientific nature (in the sense of mathematical analysis) to what we are proposing. The methodology included informal conversations with David Schmid, one of the top experts on serial killers in the world, a professor at the University of Buffalo, New York.
