This works reports on the development of a sliding window minimizing friction elements. This was performed by removing the wear elements. It particular, mechanical elements such as wheels were removed since these are more easily damaged due to friction. In this context, the most feasible solution was the implementation of magnetic levitation or, more specifically in this case, levitation by magnetic repulsion. A magnetic system was developed using permanent magnets placed in the aluminum profile of the sliding window. The target is that the window remains almost in levitation to support fine levitation control by a system of electromagnets and the respective control, developed by another member of the work team The characteristics of the magnetic system were planned with the finite element analysis software Maxwell, in which the various possible configurations were evaluated. The different systems were physically implemented and tested. The performance tests allowed to select the model that best met the requirements. A window prototype was then mounted with an adjustable configuration of magnets with a 90 degree angle with respect to the structure. The performance tests of the magnetic system proved to be satisfactory as the magnetic configuration allowed maintaining in suspension the glass structure. It is thus concluded the viability of this type of magnetic levitation for the development of levitating window systems. |
