Caminhos de inquietude. A organização do contrabando no concelho de Melgaço

Abstract

Desde que há memória, o contrabando sempre constituiu, a par da emigração, uma das actividades económicas mais impor­tantes da população de Melgaço, um dos concelhos portugueses com maior proporção de fronteira. O contrabando é uma activi­dade oportunista que tira partido das vicissitudes da fronteira, apesar de lucrativo, o negócio do contrabando gerou poucas riquezas.

Since there is memory, the smuggling always constituted, at par of the emigration, one of the most important economic acti­vities of the population of Melgaço, one of the Portuguese town councils with biggest proportion of border. The smuggling is an opportunist activity which takes set off from the vicissitudes of the border; despite being lucrative, the business of the smug­gling generated little wealth.
