Abstract(s)Currently we have observed significant changes in economic production and culture of society, which, according to Lojkine (2002) distinguishes itself from the industrial model for being multipurpose, more flexible and more importantly, for being composed of decentralized networks. In this perspective, the new company named by many as post-industrial society brings with it new opportunities to intensify the process of democratization of knowledge making emerge new spaces for the searching and sharing information, pointed to by Levy (1996) as a process of "deterritorialization of the present", since there are no barriers to access to consumer goods, and communication products. Taking into account these characteristics, emerges as needs are discussed some terms like: i) information society; ii) knowledge society and iii) learning society. The goal of this article is to clarify these three central concepts in a global society that are not always understood uniquely. The text is organized into four sections. In the first, introduction, we contextualize the new social paradigm governed by digital technologies. In the following sections we will focus attention on the characterization of the concepts of information, knowledge and learning society, highlighting the challenges that this new paradigm poses to schools and teachers. Finally, we finish presenting some concluding remarks.
