Abstract(s)The use of classification, standard and terminology systems proves to be of particular importance to classify therapist techniques, as well as clinical and nursing procedures, and to formulate diagnoses. In this paper, the Department of pathological anatomy was chosen as a pilot service to produce reports using SNOMED and to evaluate the ben- efits of SNOMED in a real context. This implementation is an example of a successful interoperability between healthcare information systems, including electronic health record systems. It is the first step to extend SNOMED to the whole hospital improving clinical research, providing useful alerts and allowing system prevention and medical error reduction.
