Resumo(s)The functionality of a kinematic joint relays upon the relative motion allowed between the connected components, which implies the existence of a gap, that is, a clearance between the mating parts, and thus surface contact, shock transmission and the development of different regimes of frtiction and wear. On the other hand, no matter how small that clearance is, it can lead to vibration and fatigue phenomena, lack of precision or even random overall behavior. The primary aim of the present work is to study theoretically and experimentally the dynamic response of the mechanical systems with clearance joints. A slider-crank mechanism in which the revolute joint between the slider and connecting rod has a controlled clearance is used as an illustrative example.
