Auto-conceito, autoestima e bem estar psicológico em adolescentes : o impacto da doença dermatológica : a acne

Abstract

O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar o impacto psicológico da acne no autoconceito, autoestima, bem-estar psicológico e afetividade (positiva e negativa) de adolescentes. A amostra é constituída por 142 sujeitos a frequentarem o 9º ano de escolaridade, com residência na área metropolitana de Guimarães, sendo 81 sujeitos do sexo masculino e 61 do feminino, com idades compreendidas entre os 14 e os 16 anos. 54,9% dos sujeitos apresentam acne (N=78), enquanto que a restante amostra não possui doença dermatológica (N=64; 45,1%). Os instrumentos utilizados foram os seguintes: Escala de Auto-Conceito de Piers-Harris, Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg, Escala de Bem-Estar Psicológico para Adolescentes e Inventário de Afetos Positivos e Negativos. Através da aplicação de ANOVA de medidas repetidas de um fator, verificou-se que não existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre o grupo com acne e o grupo sem doença dermatológica relativamente às várias dimensões do auto-conceito, bem-estar psicológico e afetos, verificando-se, contudo, diferenças entre as várias subescalas de cada construto, independentemente dos grupos considerados. Através da aplicação do teste T-student verificou-se que também não existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os dois grupos relativamente à autoestima.

The objective of this study is to analyze the psychological impact of acne on selfconcept, self-esteem, psychological well-being and affect (positive and negative) of adolescents. The sample consisted of 142 subjects to attend the 9 th grade, residing in the metropolitan area of Guimarães, 81 subjects were male and 61 female, aged between 14 and 16 years. 54.9% of subjects had acne (N = 78), while the remaining sample did not have skin disease (N = 64, 45.1%). The instruments used were the following: Self-Concept Scale Piers- Harris, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Scale of Psychological Well-Being for Adolescentes and the Inventory of positive and negative affect. Through the application of repeated measures ANOVA of a factor, it was found that there are no statistically significant differences between the group with acne and no disease group for the various dimensions of self-concept, psychological well-being and feelings, verifying however, differences between the various subscales of each construct, regardless of the groups considered. By applying the T-student test showed that there is also no statistically significant differences between the two groups regarding self-esteem.
