A tecnologia
At a moment where the Information Society appeals to the reformularization of several concepts, among them that of community and education, we have decided to interconnect them in this study since our current pupils have been born and have developed themselves according to the same premises that, according to Lévy, guide the initial growth of cyberspace: the interconnection, the creation of communities and collective intelligence. The theoretical analysis of this study is developed in two chapters. The first chapter focuses on the main characteristics of the Information and Knowledge Society. Specifically we analyze the globalization brought with the internet, which is associated with the appropriation of the web as a means of information and communication. Once the internet is not the future but the present, in the second chapter of literature revision we have tried to study how school is attempting to meet the pupils’ interests. Technology is developing, society is developing as well as the pupils are, the point is to find out how to make school end its resistance to technology. This study has ethnographic characteristics and could be described as a mixed study: both quantitative and qualitative research. The subjects involved in the study were pupils in a Professional School. On a first phase, using a questionnaire, we analyzed the pupils preferences in the virtual world, more specifically which virtual communities they showed preference and why. On a second phase, we interviewed the pupils, virtually monitored the group and used a field diary with four of the pupils inquired in the first phase. We intended to find out how students see the “invasion” of their personal cyberspace by the school. The conclusions of the present study are not entirely new. It matters to think in what way the activities should lead to a change in the pupils’ interactions amongst themselves, with technology, the teachers, learning and with school. Some final questions emerge, namely knowing if school is correctly interpreting the meaning of learning community. It could be one of the answers to problems that appear on online practices, not motivating for pupils, when we integrate, for some time, the ICT on our daily practices. |
